Thinking Man statuette poised beside an aloe plant
Minimalist statue beside an aloe plant in a simple home setting, symbolizing a calm and realistic approach to everyday life.

Somewhere along the way, we decided everything had to be done at an Olympic level to count.

Meals need to be balanced, aesthetic, and preferably organic. Homes should be tidy but lived-in, stylish but cozy. Parenting requires endless patience, Pinterest-level creativity, and zero emotional exhaustion. Careers should be fulfilling, profitable, flexible, and somehow not consume your entire soul.

It’s exhausting. And unnecessary.

Lowering the bar isn’t giving up. It’s choosing sustainability.

There are seasons where “good enough” looks like frozen vegetables and a protein you didn’t burn. Where cleaning means clear pathways instead of sparkling baseboards. Where success is getting everyone fed, vaguely clean, and into bed at a reasonable hour.

And that counts.

Lowering the bar means:

  • Choosing systems that work instead of ideals that don’t
  • Prioritizing progress over presentation
  • Accepting that capacity changes day to day

It’s recognizing that energy is a finite resource, and spending it wisely matters more than appearances.

This isn’t about doing less because you don’t care. It’s about doing what matters because you do.

When the bar is realistic, consistency becomes possible. Habits stick. Burnout eases. Life feels more manageable instead of constantly behind schedule.

You’re allowed to lower the bar.
You’re allowed to redefine success.
You’re allowed to choose functional over impressive.

Because if it works, and life keeps moving forward, that’s enough.

“You don’t need a higher standard. You need a kinder one.”

I’m Shawna

I spent most of my adult life comparing myself to other moms and wives around me, thinking I had to measure up. I always seemed to find myself lacking, until I finally decided that I wasn’t going to think that way anymore. Now my “Good Enough” is “Done Well” and my heart and soul are content.
